FROM SIGNALS TO SOLUTIONS
How EverSmart™ Pest turns sensor data into actionable intelligence
By Tim Panagos
Modern pest control is no longer about simply reacting to isolated sightings or evidence of activity while servicing locations on a fixed schedule. Technology now allows us to track and understand patterns of activity over time and to direct technicians to the right place, at the right moment, with the right level of urgency.
At the heart of EverSmart™ Pest is a simple but powerful data flow that transforms raw sensor signals into prioritized recommendations for action. That flow moves through three distinct layers—Telematics, Events, and Tickets—and at each stage the system adds clarity, context, and value. We’ve worked hard to build simplicity into the output that the Pest Control Professionials (PFPs), regional managers and others who use the tool ever day. Yet it’s worth knowing that, behind this simplicity, a sophisticated series of steps and calculations take place, all meant to ensure that the technician in the field gets the most precise and timely data and recommendations possible.

Telematics: High-value insight from low-cost sensors
The foundation of EverSmart™ Pest is a network of very low-cost sensors operating on an equally low-cost LoRaWAN network. This combination delivers an exceptionally strong accuracy-to-cost ratio, allowing wide-area coverage without the expense or complexity of traditional monitoring systems.
The sensors continuously collect telematics data—motion, interaction, and environmental signals—from traps and monitoring points distributed throughout a site. While these signals are not designed to be laboratory-grade measurements, they are accurate enough to provide reliable directional insight. In practical terms, they tell technicians where to look, where activity is increasing, and where attention is not required.
This approach enables broad deployment at scale, ensuring that no single trap or location becomes a blind spot simply because monitoring would otherwise be too expensive.
Events: Filtering ‘noise’ to surface meaningful activity
Raw sensor signals alone are not useful unless they can be interpreted. That’s where EverSmart™ Events come into play.
EverSmart™ applies proprietary algorithms that evaluate sensor activity based on magnitude, duration and behavioral patterns. Activity that is unlikely to represent rodent or insect behavior—such as brief disturbances, persistent heat sources, or non-persistent motion—is filtered out early in the process. The algorithm can cut-down the noise by filtering out real-world challenges like nesting spiders.
What remains are Events: Interpreted signals that represent conditions of interest.
These Events are visible as raw insight within EverSmart™ dashboards, providing transparency and traceability. However, critically, pest control operators do not need to monitor dashboards continuously. The system is designed to move beyond observation and toward action, ensuring that insight does not stall at the analytics layer.
Tickets: From insight to actionable recommendations
The true operational value of EverSmart™ Pest emerges at the Ticket layer.
Rather than presenting technicians with isolated Events, EverSmart™ applies a smart bundling algorithm that aggregates all relevant Events at a site since the last technician visit. This bundling combines both current and historical context to form a more comprehensive picture of site-level activity.
Each site is represented by a single Ticket that evolves over time:
- Nominal (Gray) – minimal or inconclusive activity
- Low (Green) – early indicators worth monitoring
- Medium (Yellow) – accumulating evidence requiring attention
- High (Red) – sustained activity indicating probable infestation
Escalation occurs as Events accumulate within a three-week sliding window. Events that do not contribute to escalation are automatically discarded after this period, and a new Ticket is created. This time-based approach is intentional: it helps distinguish temporary disruptions from persistent rodent or insect activity, reducing false positives and unnecessary service calls.
For technicians and account managers, Tickets serve as a clear, prioritized recommendation for action—removing guesswork and focusing effort where it matters most.

What’s Next: Site-level intelligence with Machine Learning (ML)
Coming soon to EverSmart™ Pest is an additional layer of site-level machine learning.
This enhancement will analyze Event data across 24-hour and 72-hour windows to classify the nature of activity across an entire site. By evaluating how Events distribute spatially and temporally, the system reinforces a key insight of modern pest management: True infestations emerge across wide spaces and persist over extended periods.
This added intelligence will further strengthen Ticket recommendations, providing even greater confidence that technician visits are driven by meaningful, site-wide conditions—not isolated anomalies.
Integrated Pest Management (IPM) without tradeoffs
EverSmart™ Pest is designed from the ground up to support a modern Integrated Pest Management (IPM) approach—one that recognizes that no single sensor type, trap, or technology is optimal in every situation.
In practice, effective IPM requires a blend of sensing strategies, all operating within a unified system. EverSmart™ manages and normalizes data from a wide range of inputs. This includes traditional “dumb” traps, motion-enabled smart traps and advanced camera devices like Tactacam™, which EverSmart™ has integrated into its dashboards. Regardless of the underlying hardware, all signals are ingested, interpreted, and evaluated through the same EverSmart™ algorithms.
This blended approach creates a more complete and resilient picture of site activity, allowing pest control operators to balance accuracy, coverage, and cost. High-value areas can justify richer sensing, while lower-risk zones can be monitored cost-effectively—without sacrificing visibility or insight.
Critically, this does not introduce additional complexity for technicians in the field. There is no need for separate tools, workflows, or dashboards based on sensor type. EverSmart™ abstracts the hardware layer, ensuring that technicians and account managers interact with a single, consistent system that delivers prioritized, actionable recommendations—regardless of how the underlying data was collected.
The result is an IPM strategy that is flexible rather than rigid, adaptive rather than prescriptive, and scalable without forcing a one-size-fits-all deployment model.
Closing the Loop
By design, EverSmart™ Pest does more than collect data. It closes the loop—from low-cost sensing, to intelligent interpretation, to actionable recommendations that align with real-world pest control operations.
The result is fewer unnecessary truck rolls, faster response to genuine infestations, far less wear and tear on your staff and a smarter, more scalable approach to pest management.
